Autumn is creeping in and my diary is quickly filling up with Halloween events, so naturally it seems like the perfect time to reflect on my summer designs. I've launched a lot of new product designs this summer to coincide with the website launch, but by far the strawberry granny square bag has been my proudest achievement.
For those of you in the crafting community, it is no secret that many crafters have multiple projects on the go at once - and I am certainly guilty as charged. My work in progress pile is ever growing and sometimes it takes me months to complete a piece depending on my mood and how inspired I feel. However, on very rare occasions, a project can go from idea to plan to finished item very quickly. In the case of the strawberry bag it was 2 days!
The Summer Hat Collection
The strawberry bag design actually begin with a hat. I am a sucker for a cute hat - I blame my mother and being a bald baby for this - plus I just suit hats. This summer I wanted to design a hat collection based on the style of hats I grew up with in the 90s. It's been a rough few years and I wanted a bit of nostalgia in my life. I originally came up with these 4 bucket hat designs but afterwards decided that I wanted a strawberry hat.
You can purchase items from the summer hat collection from my website here.
The Strawberry Granny Square
As soon as the strawberry hat design was complete, I knew I needed a matching bag. I trawled the internet to see what strawberry granny squares it had to offer but none of them were quite what I was looking for - so I decided to design my own. Within 2 hours of deciding I wanted to make a strawberry bag I had a functional and cute strawberry granny square - and that was the most difficult part of the design phase. After that, I used the same assembly as the sunflower bags and the bag was ready within 10 hours.
The Strawberry Granny Square Bag
Once I had the granny square pattern finalised, the bag pattern itself was simple. I used the sunflower bag assembly and made the handles slightly longer as the strawberry granny square is slightly bigger than the sunflower granny square.
If you want to purchase the same yarn I used for the strawberry granny square bag - you can do so here. (This is an affiliate link).
I used Paintbox Cotton Aran yarn in the following colours: Lipstick Pink, Blush Pink, Lime Green and Champagne White. I love this yarn as it is soft yet sturdy for the bag and in my opinion, this colour combination is gorgeous.
I will be creating a strawberry crochet bag on TikTok during a live session by the end of September 2022. If you would like to crochet along with me then, drop a comment and I will let you know the full materials and date for the session.
Happy crafting
