I made a promise on my TikTok account that I was going to try to launch a pattern every day for this rest of this week - and so far so good.
Today's pattern is a quick and easy applique - made all in one piece from simple stitches - there is so much potential for this little applique. This pattern is in UK terms - but I'm happy to write it in US terms if you're interested. :)
One of my most popular products at the markets I sell at is my crochet cards. Everybody needs to buy several cards throughout the year and they are fairly quick and easy to make. Cats are incredibly popular - particular amongst the crafting community - so a cat card was a no brainer. This little design has so much potential. I think it would look so cute as an applique addition to a granny square.
Before the pattern, here's the quick legal bit. Please do not reproduce this pattern or translate this pattern in any way. You are welcome to sell finished objects from this pattern - but if you do - please credit the pattern to HDMakes. :)
Materials required:
- Small amount of yarn and appropriate hook size. (I used aran weight (4) with a 4mm hook)
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
UK Terms:
ch - chain
mr - magic ring
sl st - slip stitch
mp - mini picot - ch 2, sl st into the back loop of the first ch
htr - half treble crochet (yarn over, insert hook into st, yarn over and pull the yarn through the st, yarn over again and pull through all 3 loops on the hook)
tr - treble crochet - (yarn over, insert hook into st, yarn over and pull the yarn through the st, yarn over and pull through the first two loops on the hook, yarn over and pull through the last two loops on the hook)
dtr - double treble crochet - (yarn over, insert hook into st, yarn over and pull the yarn through the st, yarn over and pull through the first two loops on the hook, repeat this twice more)
tr x 2 - one treble crochet in the next 2 sts
(tr x 2, dtr) - two treble crochet and one double treble crochet in the same st
Pattern:
Round 1: Make a MR. Ch 2, tr x 4, mp, tr x 3, mp, tr x 4, sl st all into the magic ring. Pull the mr tight.
Chain 16
Row 1: Starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, sl in 8 chs, (htr, tr, dtr x2) in next ch, (dtr, tr) in next ch, tr x 3, htr x 2, sl st into the ring.
Continue in the opposite side of the chain.
htr x 2, tr x 3, (dtr,tr) in next ch, (dtr x 2, tr, sl st) in last chain
Fasten off
And that's the basic cat finished. At this point you can add facial details if you wish using black and pink embroidery thread or yarn, or leave the cat as a silhouette.
